when ever i go full throtle i can hear pinging coming from the motor?? i use premium fuel too, do you think its detonation or could it be somthing else. it sounds exactly like pinging in the midrange and then goes away in the upper rpms. any ideas???

I might guess you're lugging the engine. If you are in too high of a gear (4th when you should be in 3rd, for example) the lugging of the engine will cause the engine to ping. Double check your owners manual for the recommended shifting speeds. Keep in mind these figures are for flat and level roads. They need to be adjusted for hilly country.

Also make sure you are running at least 91 octane (I think that's the lowest recommended rating) from a reputable gas company.

Since H-D engines leave the factory running on the lean side, a Stage 1 would also help considerably. Lean running conditions are most noticable in the mid-range...

my bike does the same, does it alot when i take off from a stop sign when it gets hot out. Only if ive been in bumper to bumper traffic for a while. I just figured it was nature of the beast. I have noticed that once i put the baffles back in my bike, the pinging has all but gone away, which leads me to believe that my bike was running lean, once the baffles went in it richened it up.
