Having trouble finding a replacement starter button for my 77 Cafe racer. I need the button with spring and contacts. Only finding newer versions but trying to keep it stock looking. I think the solder joint that the button contacts is loose and someone suggested that it was a common problem with these old iron heads. Can anyone help me out with a company that would supply these parts. Thanks for any info.
Just had it apart and shorted out the two terminals and it turned the bike over right away but after a few tries went back to its old way of just clicking at the relay and not turning over. Bike starts right up if i jumper the terminals at the relay and at the starter solenoid. Maybe relay problem? It always goes after a few times pushing the starter button.
A relay is cheap enough to replace, they are readily available in any auto parts store. Just take your old one with you, to be sure of getting the right one. On an old bike like yours it is well worth following your starter circuit wires through, disconnecting every connector to clean and check it is tight. Use dialectic grease to protect them. You could also check electrical continuity, using a multimeter, to confirm they are actually OK.
In addition, in the Evo section there is a Sticky to solve the 'dreaded click', which you may find useful here. It isn't iron-head specific, but may help solve your problem.
Will the starter button work with out the alarm fob near
I bought a 07 fxdb from and auction. The bike has an alarm system with fob, I have done all the necessary steps, change battery in fob, I also tired to input standard 5 number pin 31313, 13131, 11111 nothing works and their is no way of getting ahold of the person who first bought the bike. I even called the dealer ship for the pin that the bike was originally purchased from. Will this starter button bypass the alarm allowing to turn the motor over even with the alarm still engaged. Any other input would be great. Thank you
