Default Price to install bars

I went to buy a new set of bars for my nightster and asked the stealer about how much it would run me to install the bars. He said about $800-$1000 parts and labor. I about fell over. I said i'll just take the bars. These are ape hangers so they will have to install longer cables of course. I think he said about 5-6 hour job. This same dealer also told me a while back when i asked about forward controls that if would be a 3 hour job because they would have to remove the primary cover. I did the job myself in about an hour and of course i didn't have to remove the primary cover. So what does everyone think about the bars? How long of a job is it really? And the cables can't be that much.

yeah well after the deal with the forward controls i would never go back there again. i have never done it myself but i cant imagine it taking over 2 hrs, esp. with "trained professionals." i'd say *&rew them and get a manual if ya dont have one and do it urself, maybe have a couple friends over and save urself a bout 6 hundred dollars.

Sounds like a typical HD dealer. Buy the service manual and a decent motorcycle jack. Tell the service manager at the stealer to have a good life.

I bought all my stuff from HD and cost me $352 out the door...

Even the indy's here wanted $750 around here... installed of course...

Don't forget about extending the wiring... that takes more than a minute or two...

Like dbleagle I just ordered what I needed and did it all myself in about a day (including extending the wiring and running it through the bars). Basically the dealers and indys take what ever parts are involved at retail and double it for their install quote. For between $3-350 you can get everything (including all new cables which you'll need). Its a little timeconsumming doing it all but very simple especially with a service manual.

well, i just had mine done, at the dealer and parts with steel braided lines cost me about $350. they quoted me around 6hrs of labor at $65 an hour. i got there first thing in the morning and ended up being there allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day; from 8-7. of course it took them 2 hours to get started, but you get the idea. they didnt have the bars i ordered so they gave (for free) another set of bars that were extremely similar, only differing by an inch in a place or two. they extended the wires, drilled out the bars for the internal wiring and so forth. being a dealer, he took multiple breaks and helped other techs out(they have a window for you to watch them work on your bike). so, even though they took over 8 hours, i only paid for 6. over all i think i spent $700-800.

Dragbar, risers, clamp and speedo bracket cost me around $300.
I believe capttawes has the same one as a 1200L stock, see picture below, I give my buddy my 06 1200L stock riser and speedo bracket to make his ape project.
