Hi Guys.New to the forum.
I'm new to riding for that matter. I have a question about handle bars. I want to turn my Iron into a bobber.
Is it possible to use my stock handle bar and just turn it down? Would everything still fit back in place? Brake, gas etc. In other words the u shape would be upside down for that low curve look.
Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly.
If anyone has any thoughts about it I would really appreciate it.
If I understand correctly (pics would help), your controls would be "lower" than stock? If so, I don't see why they wouldn't fit... Make sure you have tank clearance when turning bars allt eh way in either direction.
Your hand position may be affected and place your hands in an uncomfortable position. Your control will likely not be affected since you are not raising the bars i.e. moving it further away from the bike. I also wanted low bars similar to beach bars but not as wide so picked up flander sweptback handlebars
I've been riding since the '60s and turning bars upside down was common back then, for exactly the reason you want to do. So you're following in well trodden footsteps! It will cost you nothing except a little time to try. Cover your gas tank, to minimise the risk of damaging the paint and pay attention to clearance, as deadrubberboy mentions. Take particular care when disturbing and refitting the switch housings, as it is easy to damage the wires, especially by trapping a wire while tightening them back up.
You will be disturbing several things and I recommend you buy a factory service manual.

Reason: Added para.
Another thought.. the dimples for the controls would need to be addressed I think?
If the dimples do end up in the wrong spot for the wires what I did when I put undimpled bars on was to use a file with teeth on the sides of the file and just filed a notch in the control housing big enough for the wires to fit thru without pinching.
