Default Does this look right?

Hey guys I was just looking over my bike, specifically at the steering head area as the bearings are part of the 10k service I'll be performing soon. Anyway I noticed that this bolt looks sort of funny like a piece broke off. I've seen bolts similar to this but this one seems weird. What do you guys think?

Here is the other side. It's just one of those star bolts.

Looks normal to me. Change it out for a longer bolt if it really concerns you. Maybe take the old one into the dealer and compare to what they hand you across the counter.

Okay thanks. Not really too concerned about it if that's how it's supposed to be but I've just never noticed it looked like that. Thanks for the help!

Id say it looks like the bolt could be a little longer. Don't know how many threads the bolt is grabbing. That being said, if you've rode it this long, keep on rollin.

Well check the torque of the bolt.
Head of the bolt I agree the depth looks normal.

If you mean the side where there is no bolt head, well the power coating looks to me that it is impacted/ peeling.
I do not know if that peeling is normal.

FWIW I placed one of those circular push in "bolt toppers", I think they are termed, into
that hole.

Seems easy to fix/ detail...have fun.

in my opinion, motorcycle maintenance manuals go way overboard on the service recommendations, manufacturers do this to CYA against liability. only 10,000 miles I wouldn't at all worry about messing with the steering bearings, you shouldn't have to touch them for 100,000 miles, and then only to check them.
