I have one of those fairings on my 2011 XL883N, mine is the matt black version, it mounts to the headlight mounting bracket. They are available on eBay for between $20 and $30.



Here is mine installed, I put beading around it and added a bat & shield emblem to make it to give it a more finished look.

 

can I see how you mounted it? I'm pretty sure the mounting is different for the forty eight vs the 883.

 

This fairing won't fit a "Forty-Eight" or "Custom" Sportster, they have the headlight mounting on the bottom triple tree bracket.

The fairing mounts to the three top headlight mounting points, so you need a top mounted headlight to installit on. The fairing will also fit narrow fork Dyna models, such as the Dyna Street Bob.

I have dual instruments on my Iron 883, I personally think that they look better in the fairing than just a lonely speedometer.
