Hello all, we just picked up a nightster for my wife and are trying to get it set up right for her. She's little, only 4'11", so we started with a slammer kit and I got some 4" pullback risers for her reach.
Problem is, I thought all risers were the same for harley. I bought the risers off JP Cycles and they listed as fiting the Nightster (and evry other Harley I think).
When I went to bolt them up, they hit on the little stubs sticking out of the back of the Speedo. It's like they aren't dented in enought to clear those little guys. They have the same shape as the ones on my Softail, but the stock Nightster risers are a little more dented in around the speedo nubs.
I did a quuick search here, but didnt see anything (it's late though).
Help? Do the Nightsters have special risers? Do I need to shave off the speedo nubs? Did I just get mislabeled fitment from JP Cycles? I'm kind of at a loss here.
Nothing ever bolts up easily when you try to make a change. Sometimes I think things are designed to discourage you from making simple changes. I have no specific answer for you but know from a lifetime of experience that changing risers and bars almost always means replumbing, rewiring, and changing all your cables. Unforeseen clearance issues are no big surprise. You may just have to do a little careful grinding on the riser or fabricate a spacer to move the speedo. No problem is unsolvable...just not solvable when you want and need it to be. Good luck. Post pictures of your solution for the next guy who tries the same thing.
The only thing that is guaranteed to fit is the same piece you just took off. You make a big change in terms of clearance when you go to 4 inch pull backs. When they say it will fit I tend to think they are referring to center to center distances and threads per inch, etc. so it will bolt up to your tree but they can not say it will clear all your accessories. Look at how many bikes have dings in the tank from the bar ends after people made changes with out figuring all the angles first. Good luck with it. I have no doubt that in the end you will win!
