I know some carb cough is normal. Especially when cold.
But lately it seems to be happening more often. I'll let it warm up while I gear up. And even after it's warmed up enough to where I don't need the choke anymore. It'll cough sometimes while cruising.
I know it's usually normal. But when it coughs I can feel and hear the primary chain jerk and it makes me grit my teeth.
Any thoughts on minimizing the cough? Could I be damaging the primary chain at all.
Last time I was into the primary I checked the tension and it was within specs.
Normal,it is just where it is getting cooler, turn your mixture screw clockwise about a 1/4 turn and all should be fine,i had to open mine up a bit the other day.
Yes,just like the engine is stopping,i will bet that this is your problem.
Next year when the weather warms up you will have to cut the gas back some,or when you stop after the bike gets hot your engine will run on.
Do you guys notice a jerk in the primary when it coughs too? Or is it just me.
That is a characteristic of a chain primary... combine any slack in the chain with slight clutch drag, any sudden change in engine revs will make things rearrange to take up slack.
