Default starting problem

i have a 89 1200, just put new coil on it, put all 4 wires in same place (blue an pink on left side an the 2 whites on right side). does not spark when cranking over but as soon as i let off start button it makes spark but of course motor wont fire. any ideas on where to look for screwed up wiring? this bike was not running when i bought it but on testing old coil it was bad (i tested it with ohm meter), new coil ohms good. there has to be a wire somewhere that is grounding ignition when starter button is pressed?
