Default Bike won't start

Thanks for any suggestions/help in advance.
About a week ago, I replaced the grips on my 2007 Nighster. When I put the Throttle assembly back together I must have pulled a wire loose or pinched something because when I pushed the start switch, nothing. The bike wouldn't even turn over it was completely dead. I spent two days trying to trace the problem checking the wiring in the throttle assembly then finally checking all the wires in the starter circuit. I couldn't find a problem.
I finally decided since I had taken the wire harness off and was going to check every connection to go ahead and hide the wiring. I reran all of the wires, being careful to reconnect everything following the wiring diagram. I also removed my Rocker covers and painted them and was going to relocate the ignition coil. Well I dropped the ignition coil. Part of the top connector broke off but the spark plug wires would still connect so I thought it was alright. Anyways, I got the bike back together, checked all of the electrical components, Headlights, turn signals etc and everything works as it should. I turned the ignition and flipped the run switch. The fuel pump runs and sounds correct. When I press the start button, the bike starts to fire up, but as soon as I release the start button it goes dead. I try firing it up several times and in the process drain the battery. It always acts like it's going to start but never gets going.
I checked all of the wiring again to make sure it wasn't that. Then I realize I did drop the ignition coil. Is it possible that this is the cause? I switched the spark plug wires around on the coil and it doesn't even want to start up, when I switch them back it trys to start as long as the start button is pressed. I'm thinking that maybe this isn't a good way to check the coil and it is something else.
Any Ideas are appreciated. I don't want to fork over $100 bucks for a new coil if it could be something else and the wait for the coil is about a week.
Thanks for your help.

Chances are your initial problem was a blown fuse caused by pinching the wires between the master cylinder clamp and the bars, check the fuses out for one, and seeing you dropped the coil you could've broken a winding inside of it. Chances are its fine but you never know, you could also use that as an opportunity to upgrade the ignition. Let us know!

Have you made sure that your battery is fully charged? Sometimes, that's the culprit.

i would replace the coil. on my '02 sportster, there was two "screws" comming out above where the plug wires go, I forget which wire goes where, but, one was off and my scoot would not start either. She would turn over like she wanted to but no dice. I found the wire hanging loose, put it back and all was fine. It's worth a shot.

Chances are that you unhooked a wire. Take the right side apart again and check it out. Coils have nothing to do with this issue. A wire slid out of a connector.

Number 2. You are not getting fire from the coil because you have no ignition. You are better off taking it to someone that knows what they are doing. I don't know what it is about Sportie owners spending a few bucks on their scoot to get it fixed right. You bought a Harley. The initial price of the bike is the starting point. It all goes back to.. If you can't afford to fix it....
