The mids handle better imho. With a set of highway pegs to stretch out with is really the best set up. I'm running forwards with the mid mounts as highway pegs and it makes no sense. Can't shift when I need to in the twistys.
It's comfortable as hell on long rides or when I need to pinch the tank with my knees and steer with my hips. I just read your post after I posted mine and though huh, I'm not the only one.
So here I am. Probably the only person that would rather have mid controls instead of forward controls. I own a 2004 Harley Sportster XL1200C. I'm looking for a kit to convert the bike back to mid controls but every kit that I'm seeing is up to 2003 applications. Does anyone know of a place that sells a kit for mid-controls on my 2004? Any help is greatly appreciated.
MY bike (2000 Sporty) had forward's when I bought it, which I found to be very uncomfortable the longer I road. The guy I bought it from gave me the original set of mids that came on it. After I put them on, no more pain. I installed an engine guard with foot rest built in later on but seldom use them as I think it puts me behind the curve getting on the brake in an emergency. Some people seem to like forwards and some like cool more than comfort, to each his own.
If you're ok with the controls being forward and you just want to move the pegs back a couple of inches, Kuryakan mini floor boards might help.
3 position fore and aft adjustable and almost unlimited up/down angle.
Amazon cost is around $80 a set. Quick and easy install.
Wow, I never realized how many "vertically challenged" (PC) people ride Sporties.
Forward controls on 04up Sporties aren't near as far forward as they were on the 03 and earlier Sporty.
As you can see in my sig pic below, my heels are resting on the forwards with my toes on the crash bar pegs, and my legs are anything but stretched out.
I just feel like I'm going to be a bit more comfortable and feel a little more stable with mid controls. I'll most likely leave some front pegs for stretching out from time to time. Thanks for all the info everyone. If anyone else comes across looking for this kit. I contact TC Bros Choppers and they are currently working on producing a kit for the 04-above sporty.

6'2" and a 32" inseam.
From the picture it is unclear what your foot is resting on besides the crash bar pegs. May just be the angle but your foot appears extremely high up to be resting on any controls.
PS: I never realized height and inseam had anything to do with liking mids or forwards especially on a sporty. I am 6' and 32" inseam and do not like forwards on any bike. If I feel the need to recline I will go home and get in my recliner
