Now that I got my fuel pack I'm reading the inst. and it states that all the configurations work only with a high performance filter. I wana do a sick filter setup but with money being tight I just can't do it right now. What do they mean by high performance?? Can I just buy a k&n for now? What are my options.
i did the stage one with the v&h sideshots, the fuel pak and the screamin eagle air cleaner.
bike runs great, love the performance and has great sound. more horse power with the sideshots. the air cleaner if i remember right cost around $180-$190 maybe little less.
I just spent too much money on parts plus I got laconia bike week and I'm going to be up there so money is too tight for a 180 dollar filter setup. What can i run till i can get my hands on something good?
i was wrong the air cleaner is $140.00 and thats for the 07 xl 1200. other than that i dont really know. go to vtwinmfg.com and get that parts catalog, its free. i have one and its loaded with lots of harley goodies. im at work and my books at home or i would look for you. you can also look through the catalog on the web sight too.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but if i hear you correctly, you put a fuel pack on your bike and nothing else... that to me equals a rich burn and nothing but fouled plugs to worry about for the time being... next is the tune...
No I also bought exaust but like I stated in tghe first post ever level of tune they offer says a hi-pro fillter is needed. so can i slap in a k&n tosuck a little more air.

Stage 1 consists of basically 3 changes. You have 2 of them, the remaining is a High Flow A/C. A/C in this case is really short for "air cleaner system" not "air filter", though a good filter like the K&N is often part of the high flow A/C assembly. There are people here that have modified the stock A/C can to make it a "high flow" unit and then installed the K&N filter.
I believe ****** here is one of them. If he doesn't chime in here try sending him a PM for details on what he did.
I had the exact same question when I installed the FuelpAKwith Straightshot slip ons so I called the factory and spoke to an engineer. He told me I would be fine with just a K&N filter. Got one from American Classics for around 50 bucks I believe. Bike runs great and no evidence of plug fouling after 500+ miles.
That said, a complete intake system change as people are talking about here would be better but just the element change is "sufficient."
