Has anyone switched out the star bolts for allen head bolts on the fork pinch bolts (upper and lower triple tree). Had to pull the front tire and while checking the torque (30-35 ftlbs) on these four bolts fouled one up. Seems like with allen head bolts would be less likely to foul up. Thinking of getting stainless.
Better make sure they're the same grade of fastener; those are pretty critical. Using the wrong size torx or getting them off angle are the primary reasons they strip. I'd replace them with the OEM parts.

^^^^^^ This right here
Those pinch bolts are critical fasteners; if you've bunged one up replace it with the proper OEM bolt. If you do want stainless bolts, they must be of the correct grade which the majority of stainless steel bolts are not.
I replaced my pinch bolts with socket-head stainless, about 7 years ago. Not a problem. My turn signals were relocated to the lower tree, at the same time. The entire front end was powdered gloss black, too. Wired the bars internally, while I was in there.
Yes, that is how I fouled mine up with the turn signals on the upper tree it gets in the way of the star bit along me being careless. Don't take much to foul them damn stars I think they need to cut them 1/16" deeper. Anyway thanks to all, will order the OEM just to be cautious.
