ORIGINAL: ontcanuck

I run 30 front and 40 back as recommended in owners manual, almost always ride 2 up
Anyone have any idea why the manual would recommend a lower psi than the tire manufacturer?

As I stated above, the numbers on the side of the tire are the MAX tire pressure. The tire manufacture does not know the weight of the bike or passenger load that their tire will be exposed to. HD tires are made by Dunlop and fit HD bikes of different weights.

You can look on any car tire and find the same thing. The tire sidewall will list a max pressure rating which will differ from the owners manual as to the recommend inflation pressure.

Now I understand my confusion. I took 'max' to mean 'ideal' .
at 40 psi (f) the ride was rough today...tomorrow I'll drop it to 30 and see the difference.

thanks for the reply
