hi Guys.
I have 2014 xl883n with progressive 412 11" shock and it is hard as hell. and not I'm planning to get new 444 shocks for 2 up riding some time and want more comfort riding. (I don't want my girl launch off when I hit pot hole or bump)
so comparing either buying progressive 444 11" and 12" (may be 11.5") does length of shock make noticeable different as comfort wise? I don't really want to go high cause like low rider. what is compromising setting for both? 444 11.5"?
Thanks!
We have two choices - looks or comfort! When taking Mrs iron883dreamer along too, the looks part goes out the window! The simple reason is that as she is sitting over the rear wheel she doesn't get the same riding experience as you get up front. So go for quality over looks and make sure she is as comfy as you can make her. That way she will be happy to come along often!
As for shocks, length of travel is often quoted as being important, which is only partly true. Quality of the dampers is even more important, which is why it is worth spending out on really good shocks when riding 2-up. Buy once, buy right!
Progressive changes their spring rates/damping at the 12.5" length. 12.5" and above you get a softer spring and associated damping. Below 12.5" length you get the heavier spring and damping of the short travel. So if you're looking at comfort, you want 12.5" or above.
