Default Oxygen sensor socket?

Hi everybody,

What would you use to remove and reinstall the oxygen sensors in a stock exhaust?

I'm gearing up to replace the lifters in my bike and been reading up and watching youtube clips. The exhaust will have to come off and, in one of the clips, the revzilla guy showed an oxygen sensor socket. But then he put it away and the clip does not show that he used it.

What's your technique to remove said sensors?

2007 XL1200L all stock w/ 45K miles, if that matters.

Thank you.

Get a socket the right size and cut a slot for the wire with a grinder. I did this to get my rear head heat sensor out. Worked great. But why remove them to remove the exhaust. Just unplug them and leave them in the exhaust.

Im with hex. Anytime I ever needed to remove them from the exhaust a wrench did just fine.

I have never removed the sensors from my exhaust when removing the exhaust. Just follow the wire from the sensor to the connector and unplug it. Then remove the pipes with the sensor in place.

Do the O2 sensors ever need to be cleaned?

And how would you know if one ever goes bad?

Other than hosing down the headers and mufflers, I've never cleaned mine... 2007 XL1200L.

I presume that a warning light would should appear somewhere, no?
