Since I don't have a tach. on my 883R, what speed in each gear is the start of the redline? I'd like to race the hell out of it, and know when its time to shift. I'd of bought a tach. by Digital Dakota by now, but I have other finacial priorities.
You have a built in rev limiter. In first gear it will hit the limit at around 38 mph.I haven't hit it in other gears yet.I have beento 70 mph in second or very close to it.
The rev limiter will stop you from going beyond redline, but generally speaking, you'll get more performance from the bike if you shift before then. You will be beyond the power and torque curve before you get to the redline. In other words, the RPM's will continue to increase, but speed will not as quickly as if you had shifted.
Not so much race the hell out of it, but rev the hellout of it. I know the engine will have the peak power before the redline, i'd just like to know where it is.
I havn't hit the rev limiter yet. Maybe I should hit iton purpose and truely find out.
Its there not a mathamatical formula based on drive ratios to tell me more accurately?
6000rpm on my tach.2003 883r.I bought the tach on Ebay and had the dealer install it.They also told me the rev limiter wouldn't allow me to redline.I've done it and it was 6000rpm limit.I've only done it in 1st and 2nd gear though.1st gear is 40mph,2nd is 77 mph.Atleast that what my tach says. The worst part is when I get that high rpm's the mirrors will turn down from the vibration.I always have to re-adjust them.LOL
