Default Riser removal 09 XL1200C

Really thinking about getting rid of the stock riser on my 09 sporty. Has anyone done this? How difficult is it? If so, were you happy with the end result?

I got rid of mine when I did a bar swap. If you're keeping the same bars, then it will not be as difficult. The Custom models do use a different indicator light setup, though. You would probably have to buy a different indicator (some people call them dummy lights) setup since the Custom models setup will not fit in other speedo housings. Annoying, I know.

Here is a thread I made which has everything I used during my swap, including the new risers, speedo housing, and indicator lights.

That's awesome. Great write up and the bike turned out just like I want mine to. If you had to rough estimate the price tag for all of that what would you say it cost? You certainly don't have to answer that, I'm just trying to get a ballpark estimate.

I'd say a ballpark estimate would be around $475-500 w/ all parts accounted for. It doesn't seem like it would be that much, but things add up quickly. Bars were $150, new clutch and brake cables were $140 altogether, etc. You get the picture. That being said, I bought most of my parts new. You could probably find some good used take off parts OR get parts (bars, cables) that are a bit cheaper and find yourself in the $400 range.

That's not too bad. I was thinking it would be higher honestly, guess that's where the "do-it-yourself" comes into play

Exactly. You'd pay a lot more for someone else to do it for you. I did quite a bit of research before I dove on, and there were still some tricky and tedious parts. But with a good bit of research, a shop manual, and some patience, it pays off.
