Default New jugs vs. Bore

I have a 06 883, going to do 1200 conversion. Which is best and why, boring my jugs to 1200 or buying new 1200 jugs. Thanks for any advice.

Flyin3, as far as what's best, it's 6 one way half a dozen the othern when I did the 1200 conversion on my 883, I went with new jugs. i wanted room for further hop-ups down the road. I was also worried about the jugs not being able to hold the heat like they should. Either way, you'll have to go through the breakin agin. Good luck on your build. Keep us posted.

Boring out old jugs will work out just fine, just make sure they use torque plates while boring. If bored properly, they'll hold up just as well as 1200 jugs. I personally got the itch for more power, so I went with new 1250 jugs from nhrs. The funny thing is my bike already had a 1200 job done on it, but still the 1250 had a very noticable gain in power everywhere over the rpm range.

If you have some miles on your current jugs (like 10,000) and you bore them out, then they are much less likely to distort because the metal has already settled down. Also, the iron liner in the 883 jugs is much thicker so by the time you bore them it will be about as thick as the liner on the stock 1200 jugs.
