I've tried two LED headlight brands, a Wismatic and a Sunpie on my wife's 2017 Sportster Custom. Both of them worked great except for triggering the red charging system warning light after a relatively long (1hour) period of riding. After shutting the bike down, the battery appears to be fully charged and the trouble light goes off upon restart only to appear again after another hour of riding. Has anyone come up with a fix for this besides purchasing the ridiculously expensive Harley Daymaker light?
I'm pretty sure the HD daymaker isn't going to give any different result since it's the same internally as at least one of the aftermarket lights. It's a rebranded "something".
Is this error enough to cause a code that could be read?
User cvaria has documented the performance of quite a few of the LED lights on his 07 sportster and I haven't seen him mention a problem like this. (but 07 is a lot different than 17).
Given the amount of large trucks that pull out in front of me in the daytime, I'm glad I didn't pay for the HD daymaker that came on my 07. I don't think people can see it in the day. Not going to recommend it. edit: or they choose to ignore it. I'm going to start riding with it on high beam during the day to see if any different result.

That's odd... even during daylight hours most people pick up the blueish white light from an LED MUCH quicker than the yellowish light a halogen puts out.

Who knows, I'm sure the 2017 is more computerized and possibly has a more sensitive warning system.
Yep, that is correct, 2014+ Sportsters are Canbus and from what I've read in Amazon LED headlight reviews the Canbus system detects that the LED headlight is drawing less current than the stock halogen bulb, sees this as a problem (the bulb or wiring is defective) and generates an error code and trouble indicator on the dash.
You could probably trick the system by wiring in a parallel resistor or bulb to bring the current draw up to stock halogen levels.
Don't know if the HD LED headlight triggers an error also or if maybe the Canbus system can be optioned for an LED headlight.

I'd also vote for they are ignoring youo. I used to lead a lot of rides with my HOG chapter and I could pick out the guys with the LED headlights all the time. They really stood out to me and not because they were hard to see
