I hang out in the Touring forum and need some help regarding a Sportster. I have the opportunity to buy a 2007 Anniversary Edition Sportster. It's a one owner with 2500+ miles on it. Always keep inside and owner wants $5k. I think it is number 1500 something of 2000 made. I know the guy and trust his care of the bike. Is this a good deal?
It completely depends on your area and how much they are going for, but if your talking about the 1200 Anniversary then yeah $5K sounds about right. KBB is $5700...Your not getting a screaming deal, that prob what he would wind up selling it for if hes lucky in the first place, so dont let him tell you how much hes doing for you. Your not getting ripped off either. I sold a 2006 sportster with 4K miles on it, thing was in immaculate condition and i had to sell it for 3K and i was lucky to take that. That was about two years ago though, and it was an 883. 1200 go for more and its a year newer. I dont know about texas, but in oregon sportsters dont sell at all...i had mine up from April until August the prime selling months and got ONE person that came to look at it. I had it for sale for the KBB value at the time, had lots of great pictures in the ad as well. People just dont buy used sportsters....at least around here.
In my neck of the woods, $5k would probably be considered a fair price a low mileage, well cared for Sportster 1200. Not a steal, not a screaming deal, but fair. For an 883, it's probably overpriced.
Personally, I think the any of the anniversary editions aren't worth the extra $$$ people ask for them.

Personally, I don't think that's a horrible price for a bone-stock, low mileage Sportster 1200, the Anniversary edition is a bonus if it's a bonus to you. Would I try to haggle? Yes.
