In the past by this time of the year my dealer had too many used Sportsters. He was hooked up with a dealer in San Diego who needed more Dynas and Sportsters so they would swap their touring for them.
This year through the winter and up to today they ran out of used Sportsters taken in on trade and are out of new also. They were selling well all along as they got them in on trades for other bikes.
I wonder it this is happening in other market areas.
It would take some work to find out why in your area it is happening. Spory's on the floor here. Some times used bikes are purchased to ship over seas .
In my area (Boise, ID), there are quite a few Sportsters for sale on CL. About 50 or so when I just checked. You "usually" get trade-in values at the dealership which can be $1500 or more below what the retail value is. So I would "guess" current owners trying to sell a Sportster might try the CL route to get a better price before going to a dealership. I know I do.
