That's not much to go on. What is the condition of the plugs? Don't use any choke. Don't twist the throttle, you'll flood it.

I had a 72 XLCH many many years ago and still have the wrecked right knee to prove it. On mine, when it was hot, the best way to start it was to just barely crack the throttle (never twist it, just crack it ever so slightly), hold it there and one to three kicks it usully fired up. No choke! If it didn't fire up after three kicks, smoke a cigarrette and try again.
