Default 2019 Sportster 1200

New to Harley’s. Will I need a fuel pack if I run deal pipes or headers with no slip ons?

You should probably get a tuner for that.

The Sportster engine, like all internal combustion engines is, at its most basic form, an air pump ... air in/air out.
In between the in and out combustion takes place which throws the piston down, spins the crack, turns gears and the rear wheel resulting in a smile on our faces.

Stoichiometric combustion is generally considered to be the most efficient, getting the most piston throwing, crank turning, gear and wheel spinning smiles per pound of fuel. The air/fuel ration for stoichiometric combustion is 14.7 to 1. When you open up the breathing with a freer flowing air filter and/or a freer flowing exhaust, you increase air. Fuel must be increased also to maintain 14.7:1 or thereabouts. So many try to make it so complicated but it's really just about that simple.

A little too rich costs power and is evidences by sooty spark plugs and exhaust - as well as more quickly darkening you engine oil. Too lean also costs power but results in high temps and unhappy engines.

You will need a tuner for sure. Your bike will run a little lean (+ Decel Pop). I have the FP3 on my bike but there are other options. I do like the ease of the FuelPak, Customer service was great too.

You don't have to, but you probably should especially on a new bike like that.

Will the auto tune feature work with drag pipes or would I be better off with some shortshots?

Auto tune should work just fine, if you are having issues just call V&H and they should help write a custom tune.
