Question Re-map/Fuel Managment ?

OK I have heard tons of different thoughts on this and would like to know something. My buddy has a 2007 mustang gt and the first thing he did is change the exhaust and add a K&N High flow cold air intake. Guess what he didn't have to do and still had HP increase correct fuel ratio. Now what in the world makes the bike any different I heard that no matter what the ecm will keep the fuel ratio right if you change the pipes and air cleaner but if you really want to add more hp then you can remap for more fuel and differnt spark timing, but it is not nessecery and will not cause damage if you dont. But I have also heard that if you change the pipes and air cleaner you have to remap or it will lean it out to much and harm the engine?? WTF is the real deal.

your bike is already running lean from the factory.. more air thru the engine will only lean it out more.. sure the ECM can adjust some.. enough for just pipes, or just an AC but probally not enough for both.. pc111s are cheap on ebay ,fuelmoto, come premapped for your specific setup.. your bike will thank you for it

OK I stand corrected I just called my buddy and since when he made the changes he also change the mass air meter from 40 something mm to 90something mm he did change the computer but he said if he were to simpley change the filter to a high flow filter and the exhaust he would not have had to do that....

You are comparing a water cooled V8 automotive engine with a air cooled Vtwin motorcycle. The only thing they have in common is that they are both internal combustion and use gasoline for fuel. If you stage 1 your bike you need to remap.

No mass air sensor on your bike.

Gotta go with everyone else here. These bikes are too lean from the factory, and yes it can adjust, but you want it to be in the center of its ability to adjust, not at the edge.

A car uses wide band O2 sensors, and doesn't require the computer to be re calibrated for a a/f exhaust change, the wide band sensors, and the M.A.F. sensor will do that automatically. Your bike has narrow band sensors that work in conjunction with a fuel "map" that tells the sensors to regulate the fuel ratio to 14.1:1 . That is perfect air to fuel ratio for a liquid cool engine, for an air cool engine, that is dangerously lean. If you don't want your pistons to burn up, add a fuel processor of some kind. Please, if I am wrong with this info, someone chime in and correct me.

Shoot rounder a PM. According to him, '07 and later don't need a remap to go with the pipes/AC mod.
