Is this rattle a problem?
I have been trying to figure out where this rattle is coming from and how to fix it. I have a 93 Sportster 1200. I started noticing it after I fixed my gas cap rattle (by using a punch on the underside). It does not occur at idle, and not at the top end, but somewhere in the middle. I think it happens between 1/3 and 2/3 of my throttle. I don't have a tachometer so that's why I don't know for sure. When I pull my clutch it stops, so it must be related to my engine, not my drivetrain, right? I have had some issues recreating it in my garage, but unfortunately do not have the free time I used to (mostly because of a 9-month old).
Last fall I replaced my rocker box gaskets and nothing seemed off while doing that. This week, I re-tensioned my primary chain to the correct play. Nothing seems off about my ride (starting, stopping, switching gears, etc.)
I don't mind the rattle, but it sounds like a screw inside a tin can, so I am just worried it might lead to something worse. Any advice on tracking it down better? Should I just ignore it?
Thanks in advance!
Jake
