Hi this is my first post. Little back ground I've only been riding for about 2 years but I love it. My bike is a 97 883 hugger with about 4500 miles on it. When I got bike it had been sitting and not started for 8 years. I got the clymer manual and did alot to it and it's been running great. I'm new to working on bikes but have done most of my own automotive work in the past. Electrical stuff is not my strong point and I think that's what I'm dealing with now. Other day I rode bike home from work and then put new plugs in it. Also the idle cable was really loose and alot of play in it( I think its broken) but didnt get that far. I took grip off and looked at cables. Throttle is fine and idle was real loose. I put it back together and when I went to start it it wont start. I turn key on and when I push start button I get one click which is coming from starter relay under seat. I switched it out with other 15 amp relay and same thing. Any ideas on were to start? Thanks for any help
Check your battery for condition and your battery cables, end to end, in between for condition, partial breaks, etc.
Check your fuse box and pull the breakers/fuses - check for any corrosion on the contact points of the fuses/breaker - specifically related to the ignition circuit
Pick up a Service Manual as it has the necessary troubleshooting proceedures and wiring diagrams which will help greatly as you investigate the problem

Check that you haven't pinched a wire in your switch/throttle housing. That seems a likely possibility. You have to make sure the wire harness runs in the "dimpled" channel in the handle bars. Really lame design which leads to pinched wires if not careful.
