I wanted to go with the 1.5" baffles but Rush doesn't offer them anymore. I wear earplugs to cut down the wind noise so all I hear is a nice tone when riding. A couple of times I rode a short distance without the ear plugs and yes, I'd agree the 1.75's would be hard on the ears after a while.

I've got the 1.75s on mine and it's not loud at all. Then again, I don't have any neighbors.
