Good excuse for a trip to hardware store. As soon as I get it out, I'll post some pictures. I'll also go over all the cable connections pictured and mentioned. Hadn't even thought to look under the sheath on the cables for tears/breakages.
Unfortunately that blighter is also the one that can give problems! It's well documented over recent years. Best of luck getting to it.

hey thanks, grbrown. I'm not quite sure what you mean though. You mean its particularly hard to get out? Or are there common problems with other aspects?

Because it is hard to get to it is often over-looked as needing maintenance, but it is also renowned for coming loose and needing to be cleaned prior to tightening it up. That's not a very easy job! I haven't personally had any problems with mine, but the subject pops up quite often around HDF and you are treading a well known path!

Just my 2 cents but when I went to the trouble I replaced both cables with longer better cables, the stock cables are adequate but not great, also a bit short for making it easier at the battery end.

This battery ground wire has been a real pain since at least 2004, maybe even earlier. All 4 ends should be wire brushed or cleaned with Emory cloth. Once all ends are physically cleaned, coat them all with dielectric grease. Reattach all ends and snug up well. If it should ever happen again then change the cables for ones that are at least 2" longer than what's on there.

If that bolt is so hard to get at,isn't there another spot where you could attach your ground cable? Even if you had to buy a longer cable?

I did not have any trouble getting to that lower ground bolt on my 2014. But after restoring Vintage sport cars (Triumphs) for a number of years these things don't seem difficult to me.
