but its harder when your stupid Been taking care of my bike. Enjoy riding it. Well yesterday evening I was taking off from a parking lot and did a hard right turn and the bike handled perfect but scrapeddddd my lower pipe. Only had for 3 months now. My wife was upset to say the least. The scrape was only about a half inch wide and 2 or 3 inches long. But with the money spent on the bike and the accessories my wife was really up set and she wasn't even on it.
I do try to take care of the things I own..........but she asked that famous question. "Why did you do that?" And that got me to thinking. Why did I do that. Its like this 15 year old took over and I was just watching myself I feel bad now that I have a scrape on my bike and Ill probley not do that again but geeez I enjoyed it. Oh by the way I am 57 and normally don't do thinks like that.

I think sportsters make you crazy sometimes.[8D]
Wow! After seeing your post and seeing that you have an '07 1200L(same bike my wife has), I had to go out to the garage and do some measuring. I lowered the front and back of my bike 2", and my pipes are still a little over an inch higher than the pipes on my wife's bike. Granted, she has SE slip-on's and I have V&H Big Shots. But it still surpised me a bit.
Sounds like you have a good excuse to upgrade now!
Wrap them with high temp exhaust tape, spray paint them black and look even cooler. Its a bike nobody got hurt, thats the most important, just adjust your riding style a little, dont over react and stop listening to your wife, you are 57 years old, if you want to scrape go ahead and scrape them, paint is cheap.

Bikes are to be ridden. If you wanted a Chrome Queen then buy a Softtail. I've never been impressed with the perfectly polished, never been scratched garage bike. Ride the damn thing. If it gets dirty, or God forbid scratched, then you're doing it right.
A little scrape is kind of like a battle scar.It was gotten from riding, not from something hitting it on the trailer or while sitting in the garage unused.Parts can be replaced fairly easily, just glad nobody was hurt.Besides, this is a good way to start working towards a new set of pipes anyhow.Stock pipes look okay but don't sound that good, while custom pipes look sharp and sound great.Remember, there's supposed to be a silver lining to every dark cloud.
