True... if you consider the 0.000001342 grams of weight saved and the 0.0002547 of reduced wind resistance, the top end MPH increase is considerable!

I'm sure it was put there for some kinda assy to be put on there. I'm sure it's the same fender as the Softail standards and customs.

That hole has been there for decades. My '77 has it one, even though it is a different style fender.

I thought it was there to save on paint. Also servers as a high speen High Frequency Noise Genorator that causes non Harley riders to buy one.

It's to hang your bell to ward off gremlins.
Already have my bell. I got it from my girlfriend the day I bought the bike. It's hanging just below the frame (close to the ground) right by the shifter
