Default Please help

I have a 1987 sportster 1100. I was changing the rear shocks and snap the left upper stud that the shock bolts on to. How do i change that stud and put a new one in and where do i also find that stud to buy?

Try Ronnie's HD Microfiche to get the HD part number. Then try HD dealer or Ebay. It looks like they changed them in 1991 because my shock stud has a "-91" part number, so my Parts Manual is no help for you. Go to Google and look up "Ronnie's Harley Davidson microfiche" and you can find the parts and numbers. Good luck.

I looked too, and could not find it. The picture of the frame shows no stud attached, but the section on shocks does not show the stud like on my 1991 picture. The picture of the frame for your 1987 makes it look like a threaded hole, so perhaps it's just a stud that threads in? My 1991 looks to have a large hole for a bolt to come through from the back. Good luck on a repair.

From your picture, it does look like it threads in. Have you looked at the backside to see if you can see the end of a stud? Small mirror and a flashlight?

Thank you for the help. From what i can see the back of the mount has no nut or bolt head so im thinking if its threaded in its just seized. I dont wsnt to have to drill it out but thats what its starting to look like ill have to do so i dont mess up the actual mount

I have an 88' 1200. The owner's manual shows a bolt. If you don't have a manual, message me at email afaranca@comcast.net and I will send you the entire PDF, 86 through 99. Pay attention to page 528.

Were you able to reach between the tire and fender and see what type of head the stud has on it? Looks as though you may have to remove the wheel to get more room to work. Heat may help, judiciously applied, of course.
