I recently both started working at a power sports dealer and obtained a 1999 Sportster1200 Sport. I obtained a carb from a box of some nice extra parts lying around that I am hoping to set up for my bike. The only identifying numbers/markings I see on the carb is the part# G241 AKF4 and in a different location CVK . Any idea how I can figure out what carb this is to see if it's worth my time and compatible prior to my putting any time into it? Thanks for any/all help and info!
Is there something wrong with the carb on the bike now, or are you just looking to change it up? Like @grbrown said, we need more info. I have a 1200 S as well and there are differences between the S carb and those found on other models, the jetting being the main difference.
The difference between my 99s and my 883 carb was the main jet and the needle.the s model had a 80 main jet.the 883 carb had a 60.the needles had different numbers and had different taper.i also replaced one on a fat bob with a mikuni.i never pulled the float bowel,so I don't know the main jet.but the needle had alot more taper than the other 2.you can remedy this.if the needle is too lean you can raise it with tiny 20 thousthents warshers.if too rich you can go down on the main jet.on that cv,both will yield the same result.
