Putting in a higher octane then required is like, putting tubes in tubless tires WHY? You got to much money!

We are talking less than the price of a latte to use premium over reg to fill up the bike - what? maybe twice/week? Geez, it only takes 5 gallons after all. After spending 20-35K to buy your baby, that's nothing. Now, my Jeep - that's another matter. The cheaper, the better.

Edit: Oops! Just realized this was the Sportster section so change the above to 10-15K and 3-4 gallons. Still just the price of a lattee. I'll give up a cup of coffee for my Sporty anytime.

Thanks for all the info, I spoke to the guy I bought it from and he used 87 sometimes a tank of mid here and there. I have started with 87 see how that goes and maybe the next tank I will get 89 or 91 to see if I notice any difference. I am just being cautious my wife has a kia sportage which we ran on mid then one day decided to put 87 in...well when the gas started shooting up....screwed a sensor up with the lean something or other and ended up costing me $200 for a gas saving of like 2-3 bucks....but then again that kia was a POS

Premium causes carbon deposits faster than regular. That is a fact.It burns slower and I tried premium and my bike carb farts and stalls on it but does noton 87.You can remove carbon without tearing the engine apart though.

Hi All,
If you are considering an FI model Sportster; the manual calls for 91 or higher gas. I ran a tankfull of 87 through it when I was on a run and that's all they had. No problems but I went back to the higher octane as soon as I could. Just some thoughts.

I don't think the 07 883's require 91 octane.

When I bought my '07 883L, the dealer told me to use mid grade.

my '07 is rated for 91; the gas stations around here have 89 or 93....what to do?
