I need to do this to mine , just hasn't been loud enough to push me to it, yet. Sportsters are noisy on the top end anyway.
As for the slip ons, a LOT of them, I found out later after I bought my Cobra RPTs. I felt a loss of low end, compared to stock, and the same low speed chugging. You should really look into these to add to your slip ons. http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/thun...dk-tti-158.htm
When I installed them in my Cobras, it made a real big difference, in low end performance. They will also lower the pitch of the exhaust note as well. Not a huge difference, but some.

Those are cool.. When I put the Full Boar slip-ons on my 14 SG I added 2 bolts in an x through end of pipe. Seemed to help low end noticeably.. Unfortunately I cannot find pic

I've had a bunch of these Sportys over the years. even later model ones like this one. Just traded a 13C for a 15 low actually. If you get mufflers more open than stock you'll get more sound and a bigger opening for them to suck air back in on decel where the air temp difference in the pipe will cause a pop. Could you add just pipes only? Sure. Will you (She) be happy long run? Errrr, probably not after temperature changes, altitude, pulling hills etc..... A good cost alternative IMO and experience is these slip ons from like teds Vtwin or Emgo, American Classic motors has on ebay they look like a drag pipe in diameter and are cheap too and IMO look super cool, next get VIED's or Xied's for about 100.00. Call it a day, even if you add a K and N drop in to the ham can air filter the Vied's will still correct the A/F ratio to what it needs to be. This is not the way I went on my current ride because I bought it used with expensive slip ons already installed. But from ground zero stock ,that combo I described is hard to beat and will make you (her) smile and keep your wallet fatter. You could just add a tuner from fuelmoto or try and get a dynatek , Ive used that on my 13 C and it worked real well. Got it on Fleabay for 70.00 new old stock. Left it on when I traded it in, too much trouble to unplug FI plugs under the tank for the 70.00 to take it off and try and sell it yadda yadda
