I guess I will go in for the 1200 custom.
I thought the Custom came with forward controls.

I want a bike that makes me feel good trundling at 40kmph
Well whatever you do don't put short pipes on it. There is enough info on here how that kills bottom end torque.

ABS may not be necessary.
In some countries it is on the bike whether you want it or not. I had no option as it is a requirement since 2016/2017.

I hate loud pipes.
ABS is mandatory here too.

Have you considered a touring model? With a bad back a the fact that you will be taking some cross country jaunts, the Road K ing might be a good choice for you. It would need nothing and is very very comfortable even with the stock seat.

Enjoy the sporty!! It was my first bike and I loved everything about it. If I had an overabundance of vitamin M, I would have 4-5 bikes in the stable, not counting my wife's, and a sporty would probably be one. There would also be at least 1 non-Harley.

You are at risk of dazzling yourself, if you continue to look around at the neatest latest brightest thing! Take some time out, take a deep breath and think through what you really want. You already asked us about choosing between a couple of low-slung models, well a custom is just another low model, which simply comes with different paint and more chrome than the Iron and 48. If you see it in the sun you are at risk of being hypnotised by its sparkle, so beware! The stand-out model, which we have commented on several times now, is the Roadster. Do not commit to the Custom until after you have seen that. Nobody so far, including me, has any experience of Indian roads, although my wife and a close friend have both visited. IMHO the suspension on the R will trump the other models, unless the versions you get are in some way superior to the US and UK versions. We're here for further support if and when you need us!

sorry if my intent was not clear, I will state it again. The new roadster is not available in my country save as a preowned. That bike is a low mileage 2017 model and as already said by most of you a good one. I am getting a great deal on the 1200 custom which I am gravitating towards. I have no idea about the mechanics of the Harleys or behaviour (drove a friends 883 for a short while). My cousin has confirmed (having extensively driven the 883) the riding posture as being good on the 883 family for tall guys.

The question is old or new ? The dazzle is less shiny ,its about the cost too. The RK would be great if I had the moolah, I am paying around 14g in usd for this bike (1200). I will also not be doing any immediate upgrades save the sundowner seat and an engine guard.
hope that puts my point across in a better manner. I used to ride the Enfield cross country in case that puts my riding in perspective. I just had ape style bars on it.

Is your cross country like ours on what is otherwise not actual roads like dirt tracks? Or cross country as in "across the country" touring on what we call major roads or the Americans call the superslab?

I will be sticking to generally well paved roads- dirt roads are a no no for me. Well maybe a mile or so off the beaten tracks but mostly the good stuff.
I am going to do the suspension but only when some one or I can visit the US or Europe to get the parts.

Have you looked at the price of a new RK in comparison to the used 1200?
