Reason: wrong spelling

Reason: spelling mistake
The motor number could be some form of the actual VIN. CAP could be the model using the 5th-7th digits in 1986-1996 H-D bikes. CAP=XLH1200 and the L might be the year, L=1990. The last 6 digits of the VIN could be the those 6 digits you have.
Last I knew the engine number was an abbreviated VIN [anti Theft thing]
but I sure would like to see these numbers that Indicate a CA= XLH1200, or maybe an XLH 883, P,=1200 EVO, L=??? possibly a 2001...

Yes... Could also be 1990... I agree!!! HD changed the VIN "pattern" in 1970, then again in 1981, and yet again in 2001!!!!!
easy tho... is it a 4 speed or a 5 speed???

CAP = XLH 1200
L = 1990
The last 6 digits are production numbers.
LOL on me... I was gonna run out to the shop and compare a 1990's Abbreviated VIN to a Post 2000... Joke is on Me... Not a single Harley out there that New!!!!
Thank you all for the feedback gives me a good start to get the right manual before the rebuild , not sure if its a 4 or 5 speed as clutch locked up at present hence the need for the manual. its fitted in a 1938 BSA Plunger frame with springers a new project for me. cheers all
Hi to Sky1 from elsewhere in the UK, there are quite a few of us chaps scattered around HDF. We like pics, so do post some when you can. To do so in HDF direct may require you to have posted a few times first, however another way is to post on another website and give us a link. If we can help with your project you will also find that we like to help others spend their money - so there will be plenty of free advice!!!
