The bars on my 05 Custom are too far forward. It comes from the factory with a Riser on it and Drag Bars as Stock.I'm 6'3" tall and the bars just dont work for me.I was at a Dealership the other day and noted a XL model with bars that look as if they'd fit my bike and be more comfortable for me.My worry is that they may not clear the 4.5 Gal. tank that comes stock on the Custom 883..or that I'm gonna have to change over to longer cables.Has anyone gone to different bars on thier Custom and what all did you have to change,if anything? >>> Thanks>>David
Changing out my wifes bars this monday. Going with SPorty apes. 8.75 inch rise. Need to change out the front brake line and clutch cable. Throttle cables and wires appear to be long enough for this.

Just dumped my drags... Went to 14" custom spider apes. Had to purchase new cables for throttle, brake and clutch. If you need help call the guys I did, Hill Country Customs in TX. Gooooogle them. They know their stuff when it comes to cables and their prices are excellent.
I put mini-apes (HD Sporty Apes, 8.75" rise) on my '071200 Custom, and everything (clutch, throttle, wires) had to be changed/lengthened (these bars are 6" higher than stock). Totally worth the money, though, as they are INCREDIBLY comfortable (and look WAY cooler!). I highly recommend them (and they are not super-high, just a comfortable upper-chest/low shoulder height). Actually, to get an idea of what they will feel like, just sit on your bike and put your hands on top of your mirrors. The bars you were looking at at the dealer were probably from an XL Low model, and these are the same height as the mini-apes, but with quite a bit of pull-back (so your wrists will be bent kind of sideways, especially with your bike's pullback risers).
I put 13" apes on mine and had to change all cables. I also changed out the risers cause I don't like the look of apes on pullback risers, but that's just me. Also relocated the turn signals.
