Progressive shocks on the 1200N
Has anyone put Progressive shocks on their 1200N? Is there an improvement in the ride from stock? I am thinking about it, because the stock ones are a bit hard on the the a$$[:@]. The Progressive website lists two different shocks in the 11", which is what the stock ones are. Anyone know the difference between the 412 HD and the 440 HD? Thanks for your help

i just put a set on. i put the 11.5" ones on. I also put new fork springs in. just pulled it off the stand about 1 hour ago. went for a quick ride, but the rain came. i can't tell if they are any different. i am still working on dialing the forks.
i went with the 11.5" standard springs because I am about #210 and ride by myself. i wanted a little bit more spring travel because of my weight. i did not get the HD shocks because I heard they would be too stiff.

If you read what Progressive says on their site, you would see that they recommend that if you weigh 220 or more you need the Heavy Duty Shocks. I weigh in at 220, I put the HD Progressive 412's on my '05 Custom, I have the preload set in the middle and have the best ride you can imagine. The Progressives are a huge upgrade from stock, and unlike a previous poster, I could tell going down the drive way after installation they were smoother.

The greatest thing you can do for comfort on the N is change the seat. The Mustang Vintage Solo is worth the investment (if you like the look)
I would suggest changing it first.
Second would be shocks
I got the 12.5" shocks because I want to sometimes ride 2 up. It did not raise the bike much either.

I put Progressive's 412s with the HD upgrade springs on the rear of my 1200 Roadster. I weigh 220 and have found that the ride is just a little firm for my taste with the preload setting at the lowest level. I wish that I had gone with the standard springs for the 412s. ..................... BC

I am going to show my noobness a bit here. I thought that the HD was for Harley Davidson Heavy Duty makes much more sense. I am deffinately looking to swap out the seat. I had my eye on that same seat and was wondering how it would look on the 1200N. Thanks for the pics.

the shocks have made a difference. i am still trying to get the setting dialed in. currrently i have them in the 4th s little stiff. i am going to move them down to the 3rd and go from there. i am also still trying to figure out the fork spring set-up. i may need to reduce the preload.
