Need your help guys/gals. I have a 2013 RGC & I'm looking at changing out my stock shocks for either the HD premiums or the Progressive 944's. Would like to hear from people that have tried both but I'll take all comments. Thanks!
I had the HD premium ride on my RK. They were a bit too stiff for me. I played with the adjustment but could not get the right setting. Better ride than the stock air shocks and I chose the 1" lower model. Its great in the twisties though. Wondering about those who are using the Progressives. How are they in comfort?
My 944's should be here today. I considered the HD premiums, I chose the 944's do to the many reviews I read. Also based on the fact that the 944's are 13" shock riding at 12" helping to prevent the topping out that is a problem in the lowered shocks.
Plus progressive has great customer service and two different springs to get a shock better suited for your weight.
Subscribed as well. Just bought a set of HD Premium and waiting for them to get here. Got them at a local dealer event with 20% off so thought for the price would try them out. They have to be better than stock air so hopefully they work. But want to see what others have to say.
Not sure why the discussion is limited between HD premium and 944. Is it because of the price $500. That would rule out Ohlin and JRI of course.
I will say that if there are many who are able to offer their opinion based on using both, then that would suggest they were not happy with the one they first chose.
In fact on this forum recently there have been both HD & 944 up for resale.
Price is the major issue right now, there has to be a "good" shock for the baggers for around that $500 mark. There are many people out here with multiple bikes and I was hoping that someone has both on there bikes that could give some real comparisons. Maybe I'm wrong with my assumption but you never know unless you ask...
Also, I have a very hard time believing that you have to spend $1000 plus on a pair shocks that work good on baggers. I know I'm going to catch some $hit for this but I'm going to say it anyways. I just purchased 4 new shocks for my 05 Silverado and they were less then what I want to spend on my RGC. And my truck rides better now then it did when it was brand new... That being said, we should be able to get a good set of shocks for our bikes at less then a grand.....
good=stock, better $500-600, best $750-1000
This is what I got from my research, and I do a thorough job. If the title of the post would have included best shock under $600 for instance I would not have responded. Many are happy with both HD & 944 as they are shown improvements. Before you do buy please find out what the price (with forum discount) of the JRI 13B is from Howard as you may be surprised. It is not the list price. Then follow my advice below.

I can't blame anyone hesitant to fork over a grand to Dick Head Howard.
The OP should be able to improve his ride within his price range.
I would forget the above "Please", and just do what you want to do.
May check out deals on a barely used set of your choice...
