Hi guys. I was driving down a hill last night when I noticed I had front brake only. When I did stop the bike I noticed a "linkage" out of place. The linkage disappears under a boot cover. I did manage to replace the linkage so I had rear brake but when I hit another bump and linkage failed. Any idea if this is something I can tighten or adjust or will I need parts? I don't know the correct part names so please be patient lol
Just eyeballing it from here at the dust boot, I think you have had a major failure in the master cylinder retainer ring allowing stuff to come out and the lever fold down.
Depend on year and age and how good an engineer/mechanic inspector you are, you might want to pull it all apart.
Or just replace the whole master assembly.

I doubt the master cylinder itself has failed. There is a push rod assembly onto which is the hex nut and then the pushrod collar. It might just be the pushrod or pushrod collar that has failed, part #8 and part #14.
Not very complicated though to get a repair kit and rebuild.

You may be right but I was thinking 14 and 2 since that looks way out of alignment. Is there some type of threaded stud between those two parts? You would think if the retainer went, you would see fluid.
