Default Rear brake failure.

Hi guys. I was driving down a hill last night when I noticed I had front brake only. When I did stop the bike I noticed a "linkage" out of place. The linkage disappears under a boot cover. I did manage to replace the linkage so I had rear brake but when I hit another bump and linkage failed. Any idea if this is something I can tighten or adjust or will I need parts? I don't know the correct part names so please be patient lol

It would be handy if you put a signature line in your USER on your bike year and all the letters.

Also go to the website I list and do their fish on what you need.

Will put site in in a second after i copy it. On a Android and it does not like multi tasking...it or i get lost sometimes.

Just eyeballing it from here at the dust boot, I think you have had a major failure in the master cylinder retainer ring allowing stuff to come out and the lever fold down.

Depend on year and age and how good an engineer/mechanic inspector you are, you might want to pull it all apart.
Or just replace the whole master assembly.

I doubt the master cylinder itself has failed. There is a push rod assembly onto which is the hex nut and then the pushrod collar. It might just be the pushrod or pushrod collar that has failed, part #8 and part #14.

Not very complicated though to get a repair kit and rebuild.

You may be right but I was thinking 14 and 2 since that looks way out of alignment. Is there some type of threaded stud between those two parts? You would think if the retainer went, you would see fluid.

Rear brake failure.-lizytb8.jpg

This shows it better. #1 which is hollow screws on to #7. Part #2 screws onto #7.

If the retaining ring #8 fails you are correct that brake fluid would come out. Is the master cylinder still full of fluid?

Looking at the picture again it appears the pushrod collar was not not put on fully to butt up against the hex nut and the pushrod assembly has bent.
