The 1987 tank is the same as on my 1991 and they continued until 1993. In 1994 some changes were made to the oil tank mount, as having the battery tray attached to the oil tank with a 14 pound battery hanging off it caused cracks and oil tank leaks. They made an upgrade kit for pre-1994 bikes that included your style tank. I have no idea what came with the kit, but the parts needed may still be available. It's likely the frame has not changed from '87 to '95 in that area. My 1991 tank has not leaked and I installed a lithium battery that takes most the weight off the battery tray (14 pounds to about 3 pounds!!!)
