May I please ask if you have access to older style Ham Can a/c insert, would you measure it for me? Looking for height, and width of the insert only, thanks in advance!
Thanks 83, very much appreciate you taking the time to measure this. Now if I could only adhere to your explicit words, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Youre welcome. I cant leave well enough alone, either...lol
I don't know why some people want to replace the "ham can". This is a signature part of the Sportster. It kind of reminds me of back in the 60's when all of my friends (and myself, temporarily) dressed alike with bell-bottoms, boots, army field jackets and long hair just so we could look different. The only problem was, we all looked alike. This is how I feel about the aftermarket round air boxes. Leave the "ham can" alone! My 2005 looks stock even though I've vented the crankcase fumes to the atmosphere and I've made some other changes.

HD-OEM: 29084-73 was used for decades on Panhead, Shovelhead, EVO, and Sportsters, and I completely agree this is a signature piece. I erroneously labeled the FL & XL Bendix chrome oval A/C as a Ham Can cover, and have been gently corrected by the Shovel forum. Not here to split hairs, just needed some rough measurements of the insert, which 83 XLX generously took the time to take, and post.
Never really had long hair, still have my old field jacket, and If we live long enough, bell bottoms might come around again.....

Dude ... Bell bottoms? Please tell me you wouldn't consider platform shoes !!
Yes, the oval air cleaner is a signature Sportster part, as is the headlight “eyebrow”. Those are two items that a lot of people can’t wait to get rid of...

Just as long as we don't regress to saying, "Groovy" and "Far out, man." I'm not knocking the times or the people but after that, we went to polyester leisure suits, platform heels and disco. Cheez! There are some things that I just can't delete from my memory. That reminds me, I still have some pictures that I need to destroy before my daughter sees them.
