I know similar post of this have been made, hell Ive spent countless hours searching thru them, but figured Id make my own. My 06 Sporty with a little over 9K miles recently started running very rough. The symptoms started when it was about 35 degrees out and I had my normal Arizona oil in it rated for 80 degree starts, anywho I started it up and it ran fine for about a minute.
Next thing I know my rear cylinder stopped firing. I let it run a little while while my stomach fell to the floor and I scratched my head. I cut the engine and pulled the rear plug, It was coated in a thin layer of oil. Cleaned it and ran it again it worked for another minute and then I lost the rear cylinder again. Not to mention at the time I was seeing a very faint blue smoke out of the rear exhaust. BUT not anymore. I changed the plugs and put colder oil in. It worked great for at least 2 45 minute rides but then the rear stopped again.
Ive checked all my ignition circuit except for my icm, NOW when I turn it on if I fully engage the enriched it runs perfectly fine, so I thought maybe my idle jet is clogged. I spent 3 damn hours cleaning it, re attached it with a brand new and seafoam teated tank of fuel and it still only idles correctly with the enriched fully engaged. As soon as it get up to temp however the enricher becomes to rich and it runs rough again and if I disengage the enricher I lose the rear cylinder. When I give it throttle tho I get the rear cylinder back with some hesitation but it still is choppy, the higher I go the smoother it gets. When I hit the rev limiter is sounds like normal.
Ive done the propane trick to check for intake leaks. I dont know what else to do.
Im just going to take the top end off and replace the valve seals and check for carbon build up which would be some bullsht for a 9k mile bike but who knows. I just bought a 1200 kit too cuz might as well go all the way when Im in there.
Do a compression test to see if it's valves or rings.Might be both.
That 60w oil might have done it.
Might not have been getting lube to the engine.
If your popping the heads check your barrels for scoring.
