Default Windshields

I recently got the del Rio Memphis shades solar on my 48 and first off it looks gorgeous...I was actually set back by how good it looked I hollered at my kids to come look as soon as I regained composure ...simply beautiful. However, the freaking buffering is a nightmare and the the crosswind YIKES!...anyway I have adjusted it everywhich way possible and had limited success is there anything I might do to improve this?...there's lots of deflectors but few for the sporty 48..

In my experience most buffeting comes up from below the windshield. Use your hand or arm while your riding to and try to block some of it and see if you can pinpoint it. The lower fangs generally seem to be the answer.

Edit: Try and search for some threads, im sure you can spend the next few days/months reading many different threads.

Could be a couple of factors. Most likely the shield is in that sweet spot height where there is a lot of turbulence at your head. Happened to me when I got the detachable H-D shield for my Custom. The OEM 18" H-D shield got me a lot of the head shake. Replaced the plastic to a 19" with a recurve to push the air a little higher and no more head shake. I still get wind coming from under the tank area but I don't consider that buffeting.

The touring guys have this a lot and they solve it with different height shields. My RK has a 19" shield so it's okay for me. Some go shorter to look over the plastic and others like to look through.

In over 50 yrs of riding, I have never found an aftermarket windshield/windscreen that worked without buffeting. Nor have I been satisfied with the stock windscreen on a RoadKing, or Softail. I've never owned a Dresser. I have enjoyed the windshield on a BMW R100RS, and a BMW R1200RT with electronic adjustment ability while riding. Generally, if it is a bare bike, it rides much better without any aftermarket junk. I have also had some success with a tall Tank Bag that will take the wind off the chest. Good luck.

Default Windshield for a 1200T

Just bought a ‘16 XL1200T which normally comes with factory windshield but my bike didn’t have it. Does anyone know what the original HD PN is? Dealer is not sure. Also looked at National Cycle brand which has one for the 1200T. They make quality products as I had one of theirs on my VStrom 650 and it worked well.

What’s everyone using out there?

The XL1200T windshield itself is H-D part # 57400245, there are many other brackets and hardware required to mount it.

Do you want a list of all the mounting parts and their numbers?

Thanks Rob - so there’s not 1 PN that includes everything? Did you ever own one?

Sorry mate, the parts list that I have doesn't have a part number for the complete assembly, it itemises every individual part separately.

However I've found the part number for the complete windshield assembly, it's 57400322.

No, I've never owned an XL1200T, I have a 2011 XL883N, I don't like polishing chrome and there's acres of it on the XL1200T.

Here's an exploded diagram of the windshield assembly.

I hope I've managed to assist you.

I have this for my '11 Custom, but can fit the 1200T here.

Probably call some of the online H-D retailers, like Surdyke.com for a discounted price.
