Yesterday I was riding and had my motorcycle slip into neutral, could've been a mistake somehow on my part but I was in fourth gear which seems odd. Well I got to where I was going and jumped right into looking for the issue, figured it was low on 30w
And as I found out low was an understatement 😅
so I jumped in a friends truck and drove to the store and got Lucas 30w trans oil. And I also got this Lucas stuff you add for leaks or whatnot. Came in a white bottle with a cone cap blue lidWell honestly I don't know how much the primary case calls for, I think a quart or so? I put both bottles in. I know I overfilled, but on the way to the next town over me and a friend were riding to go do some work. He kept looking at his bike and thinking his bike was splashing something on his. Turns out it was mine. My bike had oil everywhere including. All up my back. Well I couldn't find any reason why it was spitting so much out and decided it's cool, it'll top itself off and I will be good. Then my bike stopped running and I had to trailer it home. It will run. But once I get up to speed it cuts out and dies
Okay you guys. I'm not a ****ing idiot. I don't have a certified mechanic in the town I live in, and I wouldnt take it there to have him put oil in the primary case. Which is where I filled it. And I know I put to much. But I didn't put in two quarts if that's what your thinking
one was a quart bottle of Lucas
And the other was like 710ml and I only put more in because I have a leak where the clutch line goes into the case from hitting a deer I figured someone could help me out here and not insult me.
The Sportster's primary chain case and the transmission are connected so they do share the same fluid.
The 1998 H-D Service Manual says that after draining the old fluid to add 32 fluid ounces (one quart) or (946 ml) of H-D Sport Transmission Fluid or an equivalent fluid.
