I think a question I was going to post may be served by this thread - if not, I can re-post. I am picking up a 2006 sportster 883C next week to start a customization project. I have been looking at new gas tanks, but the way the speedo hangs low on those models appears to limit my options. Is there an easy way to relocate the speedo so that it is out of the way of the gas tank? attaching a picture to describe the current set-up

Either Google search or this Forums Advanced Search should show the following thread,
which I think is what you might be looking for.
thanks for replies - I would probably need to go the side-mount direction...or just keep the same style tank. I will wait to see what it looks like once the springer front end is attached

A Springer front end was never mentioned until now....
That could negate the previous responses.
The simplest and cheapest option would be to put stainless spacers between the upper triple tree bracket and the handlebar risers, a 1" high spacer would giv enough clearance for most aftermaket tanks. The stainless spacers can be polished to a mirror finish, you'd also need to buy 1" longer bolts for mounting the risers.
Here in the UK a pair of 13mm x 25mm x 25mm stainless spacers can be bought on eBay for Ł9.00 including delivery.
