If the little left in the sump bothers you Like it bothered me,
you can put a scavenger on it or locate the return line and
after changing the oil remove it, run the bike until the oil drains clean (about 10 seconds),
reinstall the line and top it off. But it's a waste of time and oil. Do you worry about your cage too? I doubt it.

Sporties are a dream to maintain. The little stained oil that remains hurts nothing. My best friend has one that has over 140k on it now.

On it's 3rd belt and with drive cog sprockets this time.

PS. Jump over to the welcome and do your second post. But just in case.

Welcome from North Beach, FL., USA!

Just in case you have not done this.

Add a Signature Line in your USER set up for your bike year, model, and all the letters that Harley recognizes it with so others see at the bottom of all your post. This enables others to know your exact model if you ever ask a question.

And a Avatar of your favorite shot in the USER set up for the small picture others will see in the top left corner of your post.

Your all set.... Enjoy the ride! ______________

The general consensus is hot oil runs better than cold. It is just a side effect of the dry sump that an engine that has stood for any period of time needs running to scavenge the sump as best as the system works to get the oil back into the oil tank.

It seems that how much leaks down from the tank during storage is quite variable. My bike has sat for almost a month, yet the oil is down only 1/8" and still reads on the stick, and I keep my oil at the lower level line. My bike is going on 32 years.

I sometimes think that's as much an "urban legend" as the frequency of "grenade plate" failures.

I did state that it seems quite variable. YMMV.
