Default Shifter help needed

Got this new to me 1980 Harley Davison Sportster XLH 1000 and it is my first HD bike after many "others". So it was a box project which I just got mostly together but am stumped by the gear shifter as I can not get my foot under it at all. Its sits quite inboard from the foot peg and way to close to the foot peg for me to be able to tip my foot to get under it. Most of this bike is not original and possibly it or the foot rest has been changed which creates this problem? I will try to attach a couple of photos with the one with my boot showing the shifter position.

Here is an above view

Here you can see how low the shifter is to my boot, I can not tip my foot down enough to get under it.

I have a 1977 XLH 1000 and from 77 to 85 the shifters mount the same way. Loosen the pinch bolt and reposition the shifter where it's more comfortable for ya. Oh yeah, and get a longer RUBBER shift peg, it will save yer boot.

I don't know if these will fit an Ironhead, but there are aftermarket toe and heal shifters available for late model Evolution XL's.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I forgot to include in my post I had tried that but it then hits the bottom of the peg mount preventing you from being able to upshift.

You could even try moving the lever round one spline and see how it is.

Weird, I replied to the above posts yesterday and my reply is gone! Must of done something wrong. Mostly my reply was pulling the shifter lever and rotating it was not a option in its current configuration as would then be up against the footpeg mount and you would be unable to pull it up.

Anyways after hours of searching I was able to find a picture of the stock footpeg mount and also a bike online that showed how it suppose to look.

This is the factory style peg mount

Here is a photo I found online. When I zoomed in on the photo I could see how with the proper peg bracket it positions your foot back from the shifter lever.
So I will order this bracket and hopefully the footpeg will reattach.

Thank you again for the replies and I am sure as I progress though this project bike I will have more questions!
