My wifes 2004 sportster 1200c will not start. with the ignition on I have power to the head light, tail light and horn but no blinkers and no power to the speedo. It started and ran fine but the battery drained down after couple weeks of her not starting it and the last time she tried to start it she said it sounded like the typical weak battery then stopped making any sound.
I have replaced:
the battery
all fuses
all relays
crank position sensor
cleaned battery cables
Does anyone have any suggestions? All help is welcomed.
Be sure the battery connection (negative) stays tight after you've jammed the battery into the battery box. I never had issue with my fuse block, but probably worth looking at.
Was the battery installed correctly (exactly as the service manual calls out)?
Connect negative cable to negative battery terminal, feed the cable down to it`s connection point as you slide the battery in, connect positive cable, connect negative cable to transmission case.
Do you have a digital multimeter?
Do you want to troubleshoot, or just guess and buy parts?

And, of course, the negative terminal on the tranny case is, well, not easily accessible.
Correct, and that is why so many Sportsters have issues with this, because the owner or so called mechanic is not willing to take the effort to do it the correct way.
If you look on youtube, you will not find a single video showing the correct way to install a battery on a Sportster of this configuration, but plenty of clowns have made videos showing how to do it the wrong way.
On the 2008 I have here the negative terminal was turned to a point where it must of been hitting the edge of the battery box and probably contributing to it coming loose.
Having removed the lead from the bike and attaching it to the battery first has now got it straight down and no kink in it.

I have come across one of them from a guy who gets referenced quite a bit. The trouble is with his reputation he will be believed even though he is doing it wrong.
